When Roads Became Rivers,
A book about the 2007 flood to benefit area flood recovery
By the WInona Post
Images and stories from the floods of August 2007 are a powerful reminder that sometimes, through no doing of one's own, life can be turned completely upside down.
But from adversity can sometimes spring hope, a concept that gave birth to When Roads Became Rivers, a commemorative book published by the Winona Post that will benefit flood families.
Through 96 color pages, the book relives dramatic tales of flooding to the region along with the pictures of devastation that was so widespread it's difficult to imagine unless seen.
Photos and stories in the hardcover book are taken from the flood archives of the Winona Post, as well as the many contributed photos and stories received from readers in the days that followed.
The book is available now for $29.95, all of the proceeds from When Roads Became Rivers will be donated to the Winona Wabasha Interfaith Disaster Response and the Rushford Area Disaster Alliance for Relief.
The United Way of Greater Winona has partnered with the Winona Post as the fiscal agent for the project, which Director Beth Moe says will raise much needed revenue for flood victims still struggling.
The Southeast Minnesota Association of Realtors has arranged distribution of the books through a variety of businesses in Winona, Rollingstone, Rushford and Elba.
Those businesses include Merchants Bank and Winona National Bank in Winona, Mauer Brothers and Sidekick Grill in Elba, Rushford Foods, Rushford Area Historic Depot and The Creamery in Rushford, Lyle's Flooring in Minnesota City, Jack and Joanie's in Stockton and Rebel's Rollin Inn in Rollingstone. They are also available at the Winona Post, 64 E. Second St. in downtown Winona. |
